PokéBonk beginner guide: your first run

A practical PokéBonk first-run checklist: choose a starter, learn movement, pick upgrades, approach bosses and protect your guest save.

Last updated: 2026-10-23

Before you start

Open the game and check that the menu responds before starting a run. On a phone, rotate to landscape first. Choose Play as a guest if you want to try it; read save precautions before investing time in a guest profile.

This is an introductory strategy checklist, not a tested tier list. Balance, unlocks and controls can change; the descriptions in your current game take priority.

1. Choose a starter you can learn with

Earlier game descriptions presented Bulbasaur as a healing option, Charmander as an area-damage option and Squirtle as a defensive option. Check the current selection screen before deciding. For a first run, favour a kit whose effect you understand over a supposedly strongest pick.

Compare three things: how you recover after a mistake, how close you must get to enemies, and whether the main ability needs careful timing. There is no verified current damage ranking on this page.

2. Learn movement before chasing rewards

Try moving, turning the camera, jumping and dodging in a safe space. Click inside the game if keyboard input moves the webpage instead. Controls reference.

Keep an escape route. Collect nearby experience when the route is safe; do not cross a packed group just to collect one reward. If you repeatedly get surrounded, spend the next attempt practising wider turns rather than changing every upgrade.

3. Give each upgrade a job

Read the actual offered descriptions. Ask whether an option helps your current damage source, gives you more room to move, or fixes the reason you nearly lost. Picking unrelated damage types can make it harder to tell what works.

Change one choice between attempts and compare how far you get. A short note such as “lost because I had no exit” is more useful than assuming every death means your starter is weak.

4. Approach bosses with space

When a boss appears, clear room to move and watch its attack pattern before committing. Use a mobility or defensive option before you are trapped. If your Ultimate is available, use it when it will connect safely rather than spending it while escaping blindly.

Boss timings and requirements may change by mode or version. Follow the current run timer and prompts instead of relying on an exact schedule from an old guide.

5. Finish with a useful next step

Check the results and the in-game unlock requirements. Before your next run, choose one improvement: fewer avoidable hits, better movement, or a more focused upgrade plan. Confirm your save/account status before changing devices.
